Ride of her Life: Lust to Love Series Page 4

I missed him like crazy, which was ridiculous. I’d only known him a day and I felt like I was dying inside without him beside me. Finding Alex was like finding a piece of myself I didn’t know I was missing. He completed me. Yep, it was cheesy, but it was true.

He told me over and over I needed to quit my job. He wanted me to be happy. I wanted to be happy. I had a healthy savings account and could live off of it while I did something I enjoyed. I was tired of being ignored and unappreciated in my current job.

When I opened my eyes that morning, I decided I was going to do it. I was going to quit my job. Giving my notice was the best feeling in the world, and Alex had given me the confidence to do it.

I walked into the office with a smile on my face. Not that anyone noticed me smiling. In my cubicle, I found a huge bouquet of beautiful flowers. My eyes widened. Could it be a parting gift already? Not likely. Maybe it was the bosses trying to woo me to stay. Ha, that was even more unlikely.

I grabbed the card to see who it was from. “Hi.” I heard Alex’s voice behind me and spun around.

“Alex! What are you doing here? How did you find me?”

“I’ll always find you,” he said and dropped a kiss on my forehead.

“Are these from you?” I asked.

“They are. A beautiful woman deserves beautiful flowers.”

For the first time in my life I felt beautiful. I stared into his eyes and realized he truly meant it. My heart soared and I felt almost giddy with happiness. “Thank you,” I murmured, too full up to say anything further.

“What time are you off for the day?”

I smiled, eager to tell him my news. “I quit. I was just coming to collect my things.”

His eyes lit up. “That’s so good to hear because I was going to drag you away regardless.”

“Oh really?” I teased. “And where were you going to drag me to?”

“It’s a surprise. Grab your things.”

My purse and the flowers were all I had. He took my hand and led me out of the office. I didn’t miss the envious stares from the women who'd always ignored me. The men as well. I held my head high as I followed Alex out of the office.

For whatever reason, this sexy unbelievably gorgeous man wanted to be with the plump - no, sorry, curvy - weird little me. And it was wonderful.

  Chapter Fourteen: Alexander

My limo pulled up to the curb with a doorman waiting. I gestured for her to get in and she turned to me, her eyes sparkling.

“So, you don’t want to be alone with me now Alex?”

“I would love nothing more than to be alone with you, but I wanted to be able to touch you. I've been away from you for too long. I didn’t trust myself to be behind the wheel. I don’t have that kind of self-control to keep my eyes on the road and my hands on the steering wheel.”

I pushed the button, closing the partition between us and the driver and pulled her into my lap, kissing her with all the need I’d been holding in for three long days. Her body relaxed against mine, her breasts pushing against my chest.

“It’s only been a few days,” she said, settling into my lap.

Her round rump was rubbing against my already hard cock, making it very difficult for me to keep from tossing her on the backseat and burying myself between her legs. I kept my cock in my pants but didn’t stop my hands from roaming over her body.

  “God, I want you.”

She lowered her head and kissed my neck. “I want you too.”

“Soon,” I groaned. “Soon. Fuck, I might have to rent a room. I’m not sure I can make it that long.”

“Where are we going?” she asked.

“It’s a surprise,” I told her before taking her mouth with mine again. I was already thinking about how I could have sex with her on the private jet without disrespecting her. There was a small room. No one would dare say anything to me about using the bed on my own damn jet.

When the limo pulled to a stop on the tarmac, Gloria looked at me with confusion. “What’s going on?”

  “We’re going on a trip.”

  “I don’t have a suitcase!”

“You don’t need one. A full wardrobe has been purchased and is waiting for you at our destination. If you need anything else, I’ll get it for you.”

  “No!”

“Yes,” I said and ushered her into her seat on the jet. “Now, sit back and relax. We're going to have a great time.”

“You’re crazy!” she exclaimed, her eyes glittering with excitement.

  “I’m crazy for you.”

I sat down beside her in the comfortable leather chair. The flight attendant’s presence was all I needed to be good. I held her hand but managed to stop myself from going any further, although that was all I could think about doing. I was dying to get her naked.

I’d never had a problem controlling lust before now, but Gloria stripped away all my restraint. I was putty in her hands and for the first time I wasn’t the least bit worried about giving up control when it came to her.

  Chapter Fifteen: Gloria

There was a car waiting for us when we touched down. I settled into the comfy seat and stared out the window. “Where are we?” I asked Alex.

  “Nebraska.”

“Nebraska?” I gasped. “What on earth are we doing here?”

“You’ll see,” he said with a smile.

Soon enough, we were pulling into the parking lot of a theme park. It was more like a little resort complete with a campground on one side and a small hotel on the other. There was a lake and a playground. “What is this place?”

“It’s a small theme park that’s more of a destination resort.”

“I’ve never been here,” I exclaimed as I climbed out of the car. I looked around and felt an immediate sense of disappointment. “Oh no,” I muttered.

  “What’s wrong?”

“It’s closed. Look, there’s no one here.”

  “Let’s go inside.”

He led me to the ticket booth, where there was in fact someone waiting to take our tickets—which we didn’t have. We passed through the gate and found employees lined up on either side of the entrance pathway.

“What’s going on?” I whispered, a little weirded out by the smiles on the faces of the employees.

“Let’s check the place out,” he said instead of answering my question.

He led me around the park with a fairytale theme. It was like being in a Disney princess movie complete with little woodland creatures and cute little huts. I felt like we were in a fantasy land. There were the usual rides around the village that was in the center of the park.

As we walked, I noticed a castle, a much smaller castle than a real one would be, but a castle all the same. “This place is awesome,” I exclaimed.

“Check out the castle,” he said and led me through the large wooden doors which were exactly like a miniature drawbridge.

Inside we climbed a set of spiral stairs to an observation deck. “Wow,” I said, staring out at the expansive park. It looked much smaller from ground level. “This is so awesome. I can’t believe I’ve never heard of this place.”

“Do you like it?” he asked.

  “Yes!”

  “Good, because it is yours.”

I smiled, not really paying attention. “For the day?”

“No. It’s yours. I bought it for you.”

She turned towards me, clearly stunned. “What? Seriously?”

“The owner is retiring and had the place up for sale. I made an offer and now it’s yours to do whatever you want with. You can close it and keep it all for yourself or keep it running. I know your heart is in publishing and of course I’ll support you in that, but this can be your hobby if you want.”

  “You are crazy.”

“I wanted my princess to have her own kingdom,” he replied, touching my cheek.

I raised my eyebrows, fighting tears of happiness. “Well, if I’m your princess, does that make you my prince?”
>
“If you’ll have me, but I think given the fact we own a kingdom, we should be elevated to king and queen, don’t you?”

I laughed, feeling like a giddy schoolgirl and curtsied inelegantly. “Forsooth kind sir, in truth I would be honored to be your queen.”

“I’m glad you said that,” he said and dropped to a knee in front of me, pulling a ring from his pocket. “Will you marry me?”

This had to be a dream, a wonderful, fabulous dream. I couldn't help myself, I screamed. “Yes! Yes, of course I'll marry you!”

  Epilogue: Alexander

  One year later

I took Gloria’s hand in mine as we strolled down the cobblestone path of our fairy village. I loved this time of day. The park was closed, and it was just the two of us and the twinkling lights. The moonlight cast a soft glow over the structures, hiding the modern world and making it feel very much like we were in the fairytale village she was working so hard to bring to life.

“The place looks amazing,” I told her.

She looked up at me and smiled. “My dad’s been working hard on repainting all of the buildings.”

  “It shows. How’s your mom?”

“She loves the new kitchen we put into the dining hall. She’s trying her hand at some new recipes and hopes to have them on the menu soon.”

“Good.” I smiled, a sense of contentment filling my soul with warmth. “Do you have any regrets sweetheart? I know you didn’t imagine yourself running a theme park with your family, but are you happy?”

“I’m so unbelievably happy. I thought I wanted to publish books, but I can’t work in an office. After being here and getting to see the smiling faces of the children who visit, I can’t go back to that. This was my destiny. I just didn’t know it until you showed me. This is what makes me happy. This and my amazing, gorgeous husband.”

“How about the house?” I questioned.

She looked up and smiled again. “It’s perfect. I love being here to check in on things without having to stay in the hotel. My mom and dad will keep an eye on things here when we go back home to Virginia.”

We spent half our time in Virginia and the other half here. The staff and her family were running the park, but she liked to have a personal say in things. To be honest, I was convinced it was because she loved being in the park, not as the owner, but as a guest. And I loved doing whatever made her happy.

I put my arm around her shoulders. “I’m so glad you’re happy Gloria. If you ever want to go back to the publishing world, you know you have a job.”

She laughed, swatting my arm. “I’m not going to be your sexy secretary. That’s only in the bedroom.”

I waggled my brows at her. “But you know I love it when you play the naughty secretary.”

  “You are so bad.”

“And that’s why you love me.”

“I love you because you're a kind, wonderful, gorgeous man who's given me a life I could have never dreamed of. You’ve made me happier than I ever thought was possible.”

We stopped walking. I pulled her close and kissed her with all of the love I felt for her. “You came into my life at a time I didn’t even know I needed you. You changed my life that night in the stairwell. I feel alive. For the first time in all my years, I feel like I'm truly living.”

“That’s because you aren’t stuck in that stuffy office all the time now. You’ve worked hard your entire life and you deserve to take a big step back.”

“I have and I am, thanks to you.”

“Yes, you have darling, and I am so happy for you.”

I kissed her again. “Can we go back to the house?” I asked her. “I want you naked and I really don’t want the night security guards watching me have my way with you in the middle of Main Street.”

She giggled softly. “Let’s get out of here.”

  Epilogue II: Gloria

  Five years later

I rocked back and forth in the chair on the back deck of our Virginia home. I loved my life, I loved being at home, and most of all I loved not needing to worry about anything other than loving my family and taking care of them.

I stared out at the leaves changing colors in preparation for winter. It was the perfect scene. If anyone ever asked what happiness was, I would be able to describe my life in that very moment.

“Daddy, higher!” our little girl Maddy called out.

Alex gave her another big push on the swing set up in the backyard. He’d become quite the family man. He rarely went into the office anymore. He loved being with us at home.

He’d created a perfect little oasis for us on the expansive property. Our children were going to grow up in a loving, fun home, lacking for nothing.

A sharp kick to my ribs had me standing up, adjusting my position as I rubbed my swollen belly. Our son was going to be a soccer player, I was sure. He was getting me in shape now by making sure I was always on my feet and moving around. “You settle down in there, little one. Soon you’ll be out in the yard with your daddy and big sister. For now, it’s me and you and we need to share this body.”

“Let’s go get some hot cocoa,” I heard Alex say.

He helped Maddy out of the swing before lifting her onto his shoulders and walking toward me. “Mommy, Daddy says we get to have hot cocoa!”

“I heard. I think that sounds like the perfect treat.”

While I made the hot chocolate, Alex helped Maddy clean up before adding more wood to the fire burning in the huge fireplace. I carried the hot chocolate in on a tray, all of us settling in front of the warm fire. Soon, being on the floor proved to be a little too much for my aching back. Alex helped me to my feet and settled in on the couch with me. I leaned against him, pulling the quilt over my legs and closing my eyes.

“How is our son?” Alex asked, rubbing his hands over my belly.

“Busy. This child is going to be on the move from the moment he takes his first breath.”

Alex laughed softly. “I’m going to take him hiking and exploring in the woods. I’ll bring him back to his mama exhausted and ready to rest.”

“I think it’s you who's going to be exhausted.”

“Thank you,” he said after we sat in the quiet, watching our little girl play with her dolls on the big, faux bearskin rug in front of us.

  “For?”

“Giving me the perfect family. When people I haven’t seen in a while see me now, they always ask where I disappeared to.”

“And what do you tell them?”

“I tell them home. No one who knew me before can believe I’m a husband, let alone a father. They can’t believe I rarely work anymore. You changed me in the best way possible.”

“I’m happy and honored to be a part of the change. I feel like the luckiest woman in the world. I still have to pinch myself to prove it’s all real.”

“It’s real, sweetheart. It’s all real.”

I smiled, sighing with contentment. This man had given me the perfect ending. It was crazy to think six years ago I thought I would die a lonely virgin.

One chance meeting had led me to my happy ever after.
